My name is Mrs. Medeiros and I am your kindergarten teacher. I have been a kindergarten teacher for 21 years. I am excited to be starting my ninth year at Kennedy School.
I grew up in Providence and am proud to say that I am a product of the Providence School system. I received my Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from Rhode Island College. I love working with five and six year olds! I love their curiosity, enthusiasm and spirit! I love being part of the great growth that takes place during this first year of school.
My husband and I have two sons, Zach and Alex. Zach is a senior in college this year and Alex is starting 10th grade in high school. In my free time, I enjoy reading, running, bike riding and spending time with my family. My all time favorite thing to do is sit at the beach with a great book! I look forward to getting to know you!

Welcome Letter
Dear Students and family,
Welcome to Kindergarten! My name is Mrs. Medeiros and I am very happy to be your teacher this year. Miss Kim is the assistant in our class and Miss Kaisey is our college volunteer. We are excited to help you learn this year!
We will have a fun year filled with learning adventures. You will learn many new things this year. In math, you will learn about numbers, shapes, counting, problem solving, addition, subtraction and more. You will get to use many different types of games and manipulatives (like pattern blocks or counting bears), as well as computer games to practice your math skills.
In reading, you will learn about letters and sounds. You will learn how to read “sight words” and learn how to decode CVC words. By working in reading groups and literacy centers, you will gain these skills. You will listen to many stories and you will learn to read independently. In “Read to Self” time and “Read with a Partner” time, you will build your reading stamina.
You will write every day. You will start by writing your name and letters and by labeling items. Soon you will learn how to write sentences and stories. We will have shared writing and independent writing daily.
In our science units, we will learn about our senses and about animals. We will have a few classroom pets, like goldfish, snails, worms and even bugs. In the spring we will plant seeds and learn all about plant life, magnets and the states of matter.
There will be many nice boys and girls in our class. You will make many new friends this year. You will play and learn with them. You will share and learn how to solve problems.
We are very excited to meet you. We look forward to getting to know you and your family!
